What is the Reclaiming Tradition and Feri Tradition in a nutshell?

Emerging through roots anchored deep in this land came a vision of many branches reaching to the stars and a thick strong trunk held lovingly in the flowing waters of life.

The Reclaiming Tradition is a form of modern, feminist Witchcraft, initially developed in the classes, workshops, summer programs and public rituals of the Reclaiming Collective (1978 – 1997) in San Francisco. It is a living evolving belief system and style of ritual and magic that has since spread throughout the USA, Canada and Europe. One of the best-known members who cofounded Reclaiming is Starhawk, author of the foundational work in, The Spiral Dance, and Truth or Dare, Dreaming in the Dark, Webs of Power and The Earth Path and an initiate of the Anderson Feri Tradition.

Reclaiming is one of the most accessible traditions of the Craft, with a stress on public rituals, accessible classes and witchcamps, with no initiation required for full participation. A core concept in Reclaiming is a vision of a community built around non-hierarchical systems, the immanent value of all things. Reclaiming encompasses an eclectic mix of pagan approaches and diverse spiritual beliefs working towards unifying spirit and politics. The Principles of Unity acts as a unifying document within the tradition. More information on the history of the Reclaiming Tradition of Witchcraft can be found at http://www.reclaiming .org

The Anderson Feri Tradition is an initiatory mystery tradition founded on the teachings of Victor and Cora Anderson and based, for the most part, on one-on-one training. Today, this form of teaching in Feri is changing at a rapid rate. Feri works with a specific pantheon and set of core practices and beliefs, some of which are also used in the Reclaiming Tradition. Unlike other ‘craft’ traditions, an intimate relationship with the Great Guardians is an essential aspect of training and practice. Different branches of Feri hold specific teachings and lore as secret. Secrecy in this case is not about hierarchy or obfuscation, but honour and respect for the tradition and those who practice it.
